WordPress 3.5 Finally Released! Renders Retina Support & Easy Media Management

WordPress 3.5 – the year’s most anticipated update rolls out as one of the best festive gifts for the dedicated fans of WordPress. The latest update named Elvin, packs in a lot of new features and convenient enhancements for the users, and has wrapped up several new options in the multimedia front. So, let’s check them out in brief.

Revamped Media Manager:

The latest update has given its media manager an overhaul and has indeed fulfilled the demands of many WordPress users out there. The new manager is quicker, opens up fast and removes the previously existing iFrame that popped up every time we clicked on the upload button. Uploading images have become easier than ever with the drag and drop feature and with the options to upload multiple images in a single go. This major update has also simplified the task of creating galleries and has minimized the time taken to switch between the manager and the editor /posts.

Bundled Responsive Theme:

The second surprise is the inclusion of the responsive theme – “Twenty Twelve” as a part of the update. Though it has been prevailing for a while in the ‘.org’ website, this update brings in the theme as the new default theme for the package. Rookies and those who are unfamiliar with this theme are recommended to check it out as it can work wonders for your site. It is completely responsive and adapts efficiently to any screen size and gadget. It also includes several widgets and other customizable tools and features.

Retanified:

The dashboard in the WordPress 3.5 update now supports HiDPI or fondly known as the Retina Display resolutions, and every single element and icon in the package has been revived to support the emerging display styles. This update also hides the Link Manager from the dashboard.

Plug-ins:

Installing the same plug-ins over and over again on different ‘.org’ user accounts was considered tedious by many. This has been rectified in this update and it now comes with a ‘favorite’ tab that allows the users to mark in any plug-in that they require as favorite and get them to their account, just by typing in their user name.

Embeddings & Imports:

Embedding media files and elements from other sources will not be much of a problem with this update. Version 3.5 has managed to rope in third-party websites such as Instagram, Soundcloud and Slideshare to their embed lists. This makes sharing much easier and is just a copy-paste away. The latest upgrade also allows the users to import posts from Tumblr. All you need to do is just register with the Tumblr app and you’re ready to go!

Other Significant changes:

  • The other significant changes and modifications in Version 3.5 include –
  • The renaming of HTML editor window to Text
  • The inclusion of a new color picker
  • An option to install multisite WP accounts in a single subdirectory
  • A feature to include the ‘Post date’
  • Pre-enabled XML-RPC

Loaded with such features, the brand new ‘Retanified’ version of WordPress is sure to rejoice WP fans. And if you are one of those excited fans looking forward to download the latest version.
