Smartphones to Watch Out for in 2013

The year 2012 was a great year for smartphones but it looks like 2013 will trump it. The year has not ended yet but there are already reports and rumors coming out about new phone models that are enough to make us wish the New Year will come sooner.

So what devices will trump our Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 2, iPhone 5, or Nexus 4? Let’s find out:

Blackberry 10 L series

Blackberry used to be the premier business phone with its tight security, IT friendly OS, BBM, and great QWERTY keyboard. But now, none of their current models can compete with the iPhone or the many Android devices in the market.  Hopefully that will change with the arrival of the Blackberry 10 L series.

There are still a lot of unknowns about it other than there will be a full touch-screen model and another with their signature keyboard. A few days ago, there were leaked shots of the new interface and it showed a Siri-like voice feature included. Anyway, though there are still a lot to find out about it, this is considered a do-or-die move for RIM so we should expect them to come up with a winning device this time around.

Samsung Galaxy S4

So the Galaxy S3 Mini was not really a mini version of the smartphone that vaulted Samsung to the top. Fortunately, if the reports about it are true, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 will not suffer the same fate. It looks like the S4 will be an upgrade to the S3 in every sense of the word.

Bigger screen? How about a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED screen. Better Camera? A 13MP rear camera over the previous 8MP shooter. Faster Chip? It’s rumored that it will be sporting a quad-core chip. Better OS? How about the long rumored Android Key Lime Pie 5.0. Are those improvements or what?

HTC M7

Not to be outdone, HTC is already planning the release of their new high-end smartphone themselves. The M7 will reportedly be launched by the first half of the year with specs that promises beauty, speed, and long battery life.

It will reportedly have a 5-inch 1080p HD screen similar to the Droid DNA, a quad-core Qualcomm processor, 4G LTE coverage, a large battery and a slim aluminum unibody that will give it a look and feel that is undeniably premium.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

The Note 2 has just been released but it looks like there are already plans for a new Galaxy Note in the works. Not really surprising as no other manufacturer was able to match it with their own take on the phone-tablet hybrid category.

The Note 3 promises to give a bigger screen that is actually entering tablet territory. Need more screen on your phone? How about a 6.9-inch AMOLED screen? Aside from the big screen, there is not much else information about the rumored Note 3 but since the Note 2 already packs a quad-core chip, we should expect it to have at least the same processor.

Sony Yuga

It looks like Sony is looking to prove something this coming 2013 if the rumored spec sheet of their new smartphone is true. If it is, we are getting tablet like specs in a smartphone.

The rumored specs: 5-inch 1080 full HD screen, 16MP camera, and get this, a quad-core processor with 3GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage out of the box.

If this is real and it becomes a success, it will take smartphones to a whole new level of awesomeness.
