Samsung Still Rules World Smartphone Market as of 2Q13

Samsung, a multinational electronics company based in South Korea, is again the clear leader among smartphone vendors, says a recently published report by the International Data Corporation. And while both Samsung and Apple remain to be the dominant players in the world smartphone market, the first more than doubled the total sales of the iPhone-manufacturer by the end of 2Q13.

Samsung maintains wide lead over Apple

According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker published late July, Samsung took control of nearly a third of the entire world smartphone market. IDC, global provider of market intelligence for IT professionals and business executives, says that Samsung sold at least 72.4 million smartphones last quarter, accounting for a 30.4% market share.

Samsung registered a 43.9% year-over-year change, with its smartphone shipments up to 72.4 million 2Q of this year from just 50.3 million during the 2Q of last year. However, Samsung’s share of the world smartphone market slipped from 32.2% last year to its current 30.4%. IDC attributes this to smaller smartphone vendors LG, Lenovo and ZTE increasing their share of the world smartphone market.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s recently released financial report showed that the company posted a record $6.9 billion in profit from revenue that totaled $51.7 billion.

Samsung Galaxy S4 preferred over iPhone across almost all ages

Meanwhile, The Forbes “Hot or Not” survey has revealed that the Galaxy S4, while neck and neck with the iPhone 5 overall, is more favored by almost all generations: the Gen X or those born between 1965 and 1982 and the Boomers born in 1946 to 1964. The iPhone 5 is expectedly popular among the Millennials, those currently aged 18 and above, and is more than evenly matched with the GS4 among the Silent generation, born before 1946.

Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone has reportedly reached the 20 million mark only two months following its worldwide release. Moreover, its predecessor, the Galaxy S3 is continuously reaping success after discounted prices offered prior to the GS4 launch have sparked renewed interest among consumers.

Best Samsung smartphones

Samsung, reputable for offering smartphones at all price points and in every segment of consumers, is popular among everyday consumers, who can’t afford premium handsets like the iPhone. It is also penetrating the business community with BYOD policy in place. Here’s a rundown of the best Samsung smartphones currently in the market:

#1 Samsung Galaxy S4

Most believe that the GS4 achieved the unthinkable—boasting an AMOLED screen that allows you to control your smartphone using floating touch and hand gestures and being powered by the first octo-core processor in the world, the Exynos 5 Octa.

#2 Samsung Galaxy S4 Active

What makes the GS4 Active, the latest in GS4 variants, tailored-fit for those with very active lifestyles or business professionals who need smartphones that can withstand the strain of constant travel? It’s being dust- and water-proof, among many of its rock n’ roll features.

#3 Samsung Galaxy S3

The GS3 fulfills the dream of everyday consumers to have an Android smartphone that is slim and light and sports a large display without breaking the bank. Previously Samsung’s flagship smartphone, the GS4’s predecessor is now available on enticing discounts from all major carriers.

#4 Samsung Galaxy Note 2

The G Note 2 is perfectly right for those who want a smartphone small enough to fit their jacket pocket and big enough to do serious work on. Insistently labeled as a “phablet”, the G Note 2 touts a larger screen devoid of the device being bigger, a quad-core processor clocked up, and memory expansion up to 128GB.

#5 Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The Galaxy Nexus is the pioneer smartphone for the Android Ice Cream Sandwich version. With a button-less front and thin bezel, it’s for those who find larger handsets less attractive than those that fit right in the palm of your hands.
