HTC One mini: A Mighty Mid-Ranger

HTC’s future is looking brighter, and following the announcement of the new HTC One mini last week, it has also been revealed that the manufacturer remains the leading phone maker in its home country of Taiwan.

Although the firm’s market share was down slightly during May, thanks to some robust sales of the flagship HTC One, the company managed to secure a 35.4% share of overall local handset sales in June. And, with its smaller counterpart now on the agenda, there’s even more chance for HTC to build its momentum in the months ahead.

Despite being a mid-range handset the One mini is an impressive device that is built to bring the HTC One experience to more consumers.

During the launch event Peter Chou, HTC’s CEO, said: “We are proud to be behind the market’s leading smartphone and now, with the addition of the HTC One mini, the best smartphone family in the world.” He went on to add that the firm’s latest offering “embodies everything that makes the HTC One a success on a smaller but equally eye-catching scale.”

Key features of the HTC One mini

• 4.3-inch Super LCD 2 display

• 1.4GHz dual-core processor

• UltraPixel camera

• Android Jelly Bean OS

• HTC Sense 5.0

Also on board is 16GB of internal storage, a 1.6 megapixel front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM and a 1,800mAh battery. While the specs may differ to its bigger brother the handset looks remarkably similar, and as such features the same dual BoomSound speakers on the front of the device.

HTC said the BoomSound speakers powered by dedicated amplifiers on its flagship of 2013 “revolutionalised the smartphone audio experience” and the One mini promises to offer the same huge sound. But the similarities don’t end there, and the handset also features the BlinkFeed homescreen and innovative UltraPixel camera, which made waves when it was announced on the HTC One earlier this year.
