We love weddings.
Sometimes, it’s in a 27 Dresses kind of way; and sometimes in a hey-there’s-free-food-and-hilarious-bridesmaid-dresses-plus-let’s-get-super-drunk kind of way.
But seriously, we’re all for couples tying the knot and we’ve never actually said no to anyone who asked us to be a guest or to be a part of the entourage. We’ve even had some experience helping a couple of brides-to-be plan their weddings and, honestly, we thought we did a great job, especially with some of the important details like guest lists, decorations, seating charts, and what have you. Of course, it really helped that we were relying on some really great apps that made the planning process much, much easier. Don’t worry; we’re not going to keep those apps a secret. We’ve listed them here, so you too can keep track of the seemingly countless things you need to organize, execute, and frost, whether it’s for your own wedding or for your best friend/sister/favorite cousin/and so on’s upcoming nuptials.
#1 Wedding Budget
Have you read about the bride who confronted one of the guests at her wedding because apparently said guest didn’t give enough money? It was shocking, to say the least, considering the fact that typical “Bridezilla” behavior is only acceptable when in wedding planning mode (and, actually, not even then, if we are to be honest about it). What makes this story even worse is that the bride justified her behavior by saying that “she and her husband had over-budgeted their wedding, and were hoping to pay for it with the monetary gifts they received.”
So ladies, if you don’t want to be known as the rude bride who didn’t properly budget her wedding, you need to take matters into your own hands and maybe try an app like Sevenlogics, Inc.’s Wedding Budget. But, if you want your daily fix of wedding dresses but also don’t have a lot of time to browse different sites during the week, you can download the free Wedding Dress Look Book app on your iPhone/iPad. With Wedding Dress Look Book, you can search hundreds of dresses by price, shape and style; get listings of dress salons; bookmark the dresses that made lasting impressions; and of course, still devote some time to whatever it is that is keeping you busy (aside from the wedding preps, that is) such as shopping for a new business phone system for your office or hunting for an amazing web developer for your small business or training the new interns to use the photocopier, and so on. Don’t forget that life goes on after the wedding, and that you also need to manage the other aspects of your life just as well.
#3 Carats & Cake
Reviews are subjective and can be deceiving – particularly if there are no images that support the words. A gorgeous flower arrangement for another bride may not necessarily get five stars from you. It really helps to see actual photos and be inspired by them. Thankfully, there is no shortage of wedding planning startups ready to provide help to brides-to-be. This includes a Pinterest-like platform called Carats & Cake, which allows future brides to view the best photos of actual weddings. Users can upload pictures of their cakes, coats, dresses, rings, shoes, and anything else that they want to share, as well as tag the vendors that provided their wedding supplies. This allows future brides to reach out to these vendors and/or get planning advice from newlyweds.
#4 Gift Registry 360
Aside from formalizing your union with your spouse, one of the best things about getting married is getting more presents than you would on your birthday or Christmas. But just because you’re celebrating one of the most special days of your life doesn’t mean you can act like the bride from hell, who chided a guest for not giving a gift that was worth at least $150 (sorry, we really can’t get over it).
